British Firework Championships 2025 – Champion of Champions Edition

Dates: Wednesday 13th & Thursday 14th August 2025
Location: Plymouth Hoe, Devon
Event: British Firework Championships – Champion of Champions Special

Visit Plymouth this summer for one of the UK’s most extraordinary live events — the British Firework Championships 2025, returning with an exciting Champion of Champions format. For two electrifying nights, the skies over Plymouth Sound will be transformed into a canvas of light, colour and sound, as six of the nation’s top firework display companies battle it out for the ultimate crown.

What Makes 2025 So Special?

Every few years, the British Firework Championships brings back its Champion of Champions edition — an exclusive showdown featuring previous competition winners. That means this year’s event will be bigger, brighter and more competitive than ever. These aren’t newcomers; they’re the UK’s elite pyrotechnic firms, each with a proven track record of delivering award-winning displays that combine artistic flair, technical precision and high-impact wow factor.

Three championship-calibre teams will perform each evening across two nights, launching from the Mount Batten Breakwater. Audiences can expect intricately choreographed fireworks sequences, creative use of colour and effects, and some of the most innovative pyrotechnic techniques in the UK—all designed for maximum visual impact against the stunning backdrop of Plymouth Sound.

The Setting: Plymouth Hoe & Plymouth Sound

There is no better stage for a fireworks competition than Plymouth Hoe — a natural grandstand overlooking the waters of Plymouth Sound, one of the most scenic coastal locations in the UK. With panoramic views, historic landmarks and the open sea as a backdrop, it’s the perfect place to watch the night sky burst into colour.

The sound of the fireworks reverberating across the bay adds a thrilling acoustic layer, making this a truly immersive experience for all ages. Whether you’re a fireworks enthusiast, a photographer, or simply looking for an unforgettable summer night out, the Championships are a must-see highlight in the UK events calendar.

Who’s Competing in 2025?

This year’s Champion of Champions edition brings together six of the UK’s most celebrated pyrotechnic companies, each a past winner of the British Firework Championships. Throughout two nights, these elite teams will showcase their artistry and technical prowess in breathtaking displays.

Night One – Wednesday, 13 August 2025

  • Sonic Fireworks – Devon

  • Skyburst The Firework Co. – Bristol

  • BBB Fireworks – East Sussex

Night Two – Thursday, 14 August 2025

  • Selstar Fireworks – West Sussex

  • Fully Fused Fireworks – Bedfordshire

  • 1st Galaxy Firework Displays – Nottingham

Each team will deliver a meticulously choreographed 10-minute display, launching from Mountbatten Breakwater over Plymouth Sound. These performances promise to be a feast for the senses, combining vibrant visuals to create an unforgettable experience.

Previous Champions

  • 2024 – Winner: BBB Fireworks

  • 2023 – Winner: Skyburst The Fireworks Co.

  • 2022 – Winner: Sonic Fireworks

  • 2021 – Winner: Aurora Fireworks

  • 2019 – Winner: 1st Galaxy Firework Displays

  • 2019 – Previous Champion of Champions: Selstar Fireworks

You may be wondering why the list of previous winners is different from the lineup for the 2025 Champion of Champions. Here are some reasons;

  1. The 2021 winner, Auroua Fireworks, decided not to compete.
  2. The 2020 championships were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  3. 2019 was supposed to be a Champion of Champions year, but only three previous winners chose to participate. Thus, the organisers decided to do one night as the Champion of Champions, which Selstar won and the other night as a regular competition, which 1st Galaxy won.
  4. The organisers decided to invite the previous champion of champions winner to defend their title, despite this not having happened before.
  5. Fully Fused takes its place as the highest scoring runner-up.

The organisers decided this was the best way forward for the championships. Next year will mark the start of a new cycle of competitions, culminating in another Champion of Champions in 2032.

A National Favourite

Since its launch in 1997, the British Firework Championships have grown into a significant national event, attracting tens of thousands of spectators yearly. Visitors travel from across the UK to experience the atmosphere, the entertainment, and above all, the fireworks. The 2025 edition is set to be one of the most spectacular yet.

Treat yourself to a VIP Experience

For those seeking a more comfortable and elevated way to enjoy the British Firework Championships, VIP experiences are available on both nights of the event. These offer a more relaxed environment, with benefits like reserved seating, excellent sightlines over Plymouth Sound, and access to food and drink facilities.

VIP areas are ideal for anyone looking to avoid the crowds while still enjoying the full impact of the displays. Whether attending with friends, family, or colleagues, it’s a great way to experience the event in a more spacious and enjoyable setting.
